Deciding whether to have a loved one placed under assisted living or elder care is not easy and there are many factors to consider. How much independence is appropriate? What level of care will they need for day-to-day activities? Will they need strict medical care and routine? All are considerations when choosing the proper elder care.

Health and wellness are major concerns of the elderly and their care providers. It’s a fact of life that as we age we are more susceptible to illness and health issues, even mental complications, but there are steps we can take to lessen, cope and sometimes even alleviate the effects of aging on health and well-being.

Nurses play a key role in the care and day-to-day lives of those in assisted living and elder care facilities. They are the primary care givers when it comes to simple, everyday quality of life activities, such as dressing and bathing, and are also usually dispense necessary medications, if a resident is unable physically or mentally to do so.
